WEEK 2 ANALYSIS: BUSINESS & THE VISUAL WEB

The Internet is really changing from a platform of reading and writing into a visual communication forum where stories can be shared through pictures and different types of imagery.  With the internet being THE place for businesses and organizations to interact and communicate with the public, these businesses and organizations have to adjust accordingly. This is when social media platforms such as Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter need to be utilized to for the benefit of the public and the organizations.
Not just saying this because I attend Full Sail University, but I really enjoyed looking through all of their Pinterest photos! They really share so many different types of content that I do not know where to start. Everything from pictures of different Full Sail Hall of Famers to creative ways that students decorate their MacBooks. To me this page and its contents supports the Full Sail brand because it really shows the creativity and the success of the students at Full Sail. Instead of the school just showing their accomplishments, they really put the students and their creations and lifestyle on display and really admire that.  Full Sail seems to use this medium to engage their audience by giving them an inside look at the overall personality of the school. They also give visitors different types of tips and pointers on different subjects related to the entertainment industry such as editing tips, avoiding plagiarism, and even a very informative student survival guide.
I took a look at the Dollar Shave Club’s Instagram page and I really got a better look into the company than I had before. I was able to see more of what their company is about and the products that they have.  They share pictures of what they call “blade sleeves”. On these blade sleeves there are a lot of different amusing sayings on them that relate to the shaving community. They also share photos of what comes in one of their supply packages. This supports their brand because you get to see some of the great products that they offer. They also have pictures of just normal everyday people doing normal and every day things and their products are just for that normal everyday person so this really type of content is very relevant to their brand. They seem to use Instagram to engage with their audience by displaying different customers from all over the world that are a part of this exclusive “club”. So, by showing this to their audience it can cause them to feel more included in the club because they have subscribe to the supply packages and I really think this is very effective.
Last but not least, I checked out the Facebook page of Science World. And being that I do not have a Facebook page, my view of their photos may be limited, but none-the-less I was able to view many images on their page. The visual content that I seen was a lot of photos of the museum that really showed it to be a very fun place to learn. There were a lot of photos of the exterior of the building and it really looks incredible and I would love to visit one day.  These photos definitely support their brand because they want Science World to be a fun and innovative place to learn and not be like some very boring museums where you have do a lot of reading of information. They seem to promote visuals and interactions.  They are able to engage with their audience by them being able to leave comments and suggestions and contact them through Facebook. Leaving comments on photographs has become a great way for the public to communicate with organizations because they always have a representative monitoring the pages and interacting with their audience.
