AET Week 4 Peer Review

This is my Peer Review for a Prototype ad of my fellow classmate Elizabeth Peterson for our Aesthetics and Theory of Communications class using the RISE Model for Peer Feedback.

Her ad and my review are below:

by Elizabeth Peterson

Reflection: First, I want to say that you did an amazing job on this prototype project. For this project you explained that you were going with a Futuristic Couture concept and wanted to go with a digital theme with a silver, black, and blue color scheme. I feel that your ad was definitely effective in portraying that futuristic feeling. The shoe itself looks very futuristic with the metal on the heel and the spikes. The colors and font that you used for the slogan was also very fitting for your concept because it makes me think of all things dealing with space ships and outer space too. Using the pixels also added to the digital theme that you were going with and with the shoe coming down into the pixels it really looks like someone is stomping on the pixels with the shoe. It gives a feeling of the shoe stepping into the future and I really love that!

Inquiry: So, I wondered what exactly were you trying to communicate with the floor that the shoe is standing on merging with the shoe, I don’t know if that is exactly what is going on, but it looks as if it is. It really gives the focus to the shoe in the photo and looks like everything is giving energy to it, so I wondered if that was why it looked like that, or if it was even a floor.

Suggestion: Did you consider putting any other symbols of fashion in your ad? I know you mentioned that you didn’t want to include a model or anything like that because it may be mistaken for something else, and with the shoe someone may think it is an ad only about shoes. Maybe you can ad a purse or futuristic jewelry that would also show that your ad is about the world of fashion and not just a particular industry.

Elevate: Again, your ad is really great and I can tell you put a lot of work and detail in to it. There is really not much you can refine, but maybe making the slogan that you have can be placed closer to the shoe so there is not a lot of space. I know you mentioned that you were also trying to be conscious of whitespace and it looks good, but it could be a little closer. Or maybe spread the slogan out so that there is visual balance on both sides of your ad. Other than that I don’t see anything else that needs to be refined because I feel that your ad really reflects the concept you were going for. Again, awesome job!

AET WK2 Practice: Adding Fonts

Are you looking for more fonts for your writings or other creative activities than what your current system offers? Well, I had the opportunity in my current Aesthetics and Theory of Communications class to explore and practice downloading and installing different fonts from the web. The website I chose was 1001fonts.com . They have an awesome variety and all for free. You can also google how to install these fonts depending on if you have a PC or a Mac. So, take a moment to check out some of the fonts I chose and why I chose them. A couple of the fonts aren't compatible with this platform, but I still really liked them and did a review on them anyway.

Cheery, Positive and Upbeat in Appearance
Mf Still Kinda Ridiculous  - This one immediately caught my eye. I like that the letters are different sizes and how the lowercase “i” looks like a stick man. It really would add fun to any piece that you are doing.

Delicate Little Flower I liked this one because it is really girly and I think it would add delicateness and a childlike feeling to my work.

Cartoon 2 Us - This one would like cool being used with any type of project that has a cartoon theme. It would be great especially as a font for the title.

Serious and Business Like Appearance
Niconne Even though this is a scripted font I thought it was still professional in that it is elegant and the letters are legible. This would also be good for just the title of a piece.

Vanity This one made me think of fonts that are used in many magazines. It would be a great one also for the title of a blog or anything like that. (This font not compatible to show here)

Dual I just liked this one because it was very wide compared to a lot of fonts that I have used. It is still professional so it can be used for a variety of things, but because of the letter sizes it will definitely stand out. (This font not compatible to show here)

Dark, Sad, or Frightening Appearance
Primal Dream This reminded me of an alternative rock band and the type of font I
have seen used for some of their logos and things like that. Sometimes the music can be dark, sad, and frightening, but so can all music. But something about this font is just dark.

Cpeepsters Of course this reminded me of the old horror movies like Frankenstein and Dracula. This would be a great choice if you doing something associated with vintage horror movies.

Scratched Letters So this font actually reminded me of modern horror movies and I enlarged it so you can see the details on the letters. These types of movies are very dark and scary and the titles usually are in these types of fonts as I have pictured below.

WEEK 4 REFECTION: PROJECT REVISION

This assignment proved to be a bit harder than expected. There was one main thing that I wanted to change and that was to get more personal photos into the digital story. My initial video had only one photo that I was included in and I wanted to make things a little more personal than that. I really did not see any other things that I wanted to change. I felt like I gave as much information in the story as I wanted to give and I felt my voice over sounded great. So I decided that along with adding a few extra personal photos, I would also include an introduction that has personal photos. I added a picture of me at about 6 years old and a recent photo of me to kind of show that I am telling a story of growing.  The peer review by my classmate Raymond made me want to consider changing the music to a more upbeat tempo, so I decided to do that as my third and final revision. I think it made the mood of the video a little more fun and not as sad as the previous background music did.

WEEK 4 REFLECTION: RISE PEER FEEDBACK

Student: Elizabeth Peterson | Media Communications Bachelors of Science Degree (MCBS) Program

BlogFrom: the Heart/Love: the Mind

I had the honor of doing a peer review of the Digital Story for Elizabeth Peterson (my fellow New Media Tools classmate at Full Sail University) using the RISE Model for Peer Feedback. I really enjoyed watching her video and learning more about her journey from where she once was, to where she is, and where she is on her way to! Please check out her blog at the link above and also watch the video before you dive into the review.

Reflection
I really respect how you were very open, honest, and detailed with your story. I know that it takes a lot of courage to speak on very emotional subjects and events in your past. The positive thing though is that those things make us who we are today. You talked about your marriage that you went into very young and how much you learned from that going into your current relationship. I can see that the motivation from your loved one encouraged you to pursue your dreams. This really makes me want to take a moment to maybe get more personal with my story. I also enjoyed seeing all your very captivating photos. I feel that they give the viewer a closer look into your personality.
Inquiry
When you speak of your current relationship, would you say that was the turning point in your life that guided your decision to pursue an education at Full Sail? In your video it seems that with his support it really motivated you to make a change for the better. Even though it was you who took the step towards your new future, his support and positivity seemed to give you the boost you needed to take that step and I think that is absolutely awesome.
Suggestion
Your video was very detailed with great photography. The only thing I could think of to suggest is maybe more pictures of you when you were younger at the beginning of your video. You talked a little about being homeschooled and some of your time in elementary and middle school and would have been cool to see some photos of your life during that time.
Elevate
Maybe you could also expand the story at the end and talk more about your experience since starting the MCBS program at Full Sail and also where do you expect it to take you. You could talk about some of the career opportunities that you are looking to venture in to after you graduate and some things like that. Again your video was already very detailed and full of great visuals and these could help expand more on your story.

Again it was a pleasure to review your digital story and I hope that my feedback can give you a little assistance as you go in to revise your final project.
