WEEK 4 REFECTION: PROJECT REVISION

This assignment proved to be a bit harder than expected. There was one main thing that I wanted to change and that was to get more personal photos into the digital story. My initial video had only one photo that I was included in and I wanted to make things a little more personal than that. I really did not see any other things that I wanted to change. I felt like I gave as much information in the story as I wanted to give and I felt my voice over sounded great. So I decided that along with adding a few extra personal photos, I would also include an introduction that has personal photos. I added a picture of me at about 6 years old and a recent photo of me to kind of show that I am telling a story of growing.  The peer review by my classmate Raymond made me want to consider changing the music to a more upbeat tempo, so I decided to do that as my third and final revision. I think it made the mood of the video a little more fun and not as sad as the previous background music did.

WEEK 4 REFLECTION: RISE PEER FEEDBACK

Student: Elizabeth Peterson | Media Communications Bachelors of Science Degree (MCBS) Program

BlogFrom: the Heart/Love: the Mind

I had the honor of doing a peer review of the Digital Story for Elizabeth Peterson (my fellow New Media Tools classmate at Full Sail University) using the RISE Model for Peer Feedback. I really enjoyed watching her video and learning more about her journey from where she once was, to where she is, and where she is on her way to! Please check out her blog at the link above and also watch the video before you dive into the review.

Reflection
I really respect how you were very open, honest, and detailed with your story. I know that it takes a lot of courage to speak on very emotional subjects and events in your past. The positive thing though is that those things make us who we are today. You talked about your marriage that you went into very young and how much you learned from that going into your current relationship. I can see that the motivation from your loved one encouraged you to pursue your dreams. This really makes me want to take a moment to maybe get more personal with my story. I also enjoyed seeing all your very captivating photos. I feel that they give the viewer a closer look into your personality.
Inquiry
When you speak of your current relationship, would you say that was the turning point in your life that guided your decision to pursue an education at Full Sail? In your video it seems that with his support it really motivated you to make a change for the better. Even though it was you who took the step towards your new future, his support and positivity seemed to give you the boost you needed to take that step and I think that is absolutely awesome.
Suggestion
Your video was very detailed with great photography. The only thing I could think of to suggest is maybe more pictures of you when you were younger at the beginning of your video. You talked a little about being homeschooled and some of your time in elementary and middle school and would have been cool to see some photos of your life during that time.
Elevate
Maybe you could also expand the story at the end and talk more about your experience since starting the MCBS program at Full Sail and also where do you expect it to take you. You could talk about some of the career opportunities that you are looking to venture in to after you graduate and some things like that. Again your video was already very detailed and full of great visuals and these could help expand more on your story.

Again it was a pleasure to review your digital story and I hope that my feedback can give you a little assistance as you go in to revise your final project.

WEEK 3 PROJECT: DIGITAL STORYTELLING WITH A MOBILE DEVICE CHALLENGE

Elizabeth Peterson: Team Lead, Photographer/ Media Producer

Jazzalette Wandrick: Researcher, Strategist, Video Editor, Media Designer
Mobile Apps/Online Tools Used: Ipad, pixlr, cute CUT, iMovie, Sony phone, DropBox, Mightybell

Lisa McKnight: Audio Engineer, Script Writer
Mobile Apps/Online Tools Used: Samsung Galaxy, Soundcloud, DropBox, Mightybell

Raymond Manning: Lead Writer, Documentarian
Mobile Apps/Online Tools Used: ???

Reflection:
Mightybell was a great tool that we used to collaborate on this project. I created a room where we could come together and chat, leave comments, share information, and brainstorm ideas. Jazzalette started out by researching different apps for us to use to produce our video. We then started to think of a product or brand. I thought of the California Oranges because our Photographer/Media Producer lives in California so I thought it would very accessible to get cool photos and capture some California scenery and with many people trying to get healthy these days and go organic I thought it would also be very relevant. At that time we moved on to creating a script. Our lead writer had not connected with us so with deadlines coming up the Team Leader asked me to start on a script.  I used the Soundcloud app on my Samsung Galaxy phone to record the audio needed for our video. It included my voiceover of the script along with a royalty free instrumental. After completing the script our Photo/Media person (Beth) got started on taking the photos that we needed to go with our production. She used her Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone along with her Pixlr app in order to capture the great photos needed to bring our script to life.  After gathering the visual and audio media our Video Editor (Jazzalette) took everything and created the final video. She used her iPad as the mobile device; she used Pixlr as well to edit the photos, and Cute CUT and iMovie to edit and create the video. That was our overall process from start to finish.  At one point we did have to go back in to the drawing board on our script and make some changes, but we adjusted to those changes like the professionals that we are! Jazzalette is also our lead strategist, and even though we will all share the video, she is in charge of doing all that she can for maximum exposure.
As I explained above, even though my role started out differently, I ended with the role of Lead Writer and Audio Engineer. I contributed the script, the audio used in the video, and a few of the photos. What surprised me about this challenge is that even though we were all in different locations and strictly using an online forum, we still communicated very well. I also was surprised at all the things you can do with just using mobile apps. You can capture, create, edit, and share media just from your phone alone.  Again, I am most proud of us being able to come together without being able to collaborate face to face and still doing a fantastic job at communicating and delivering. It was most definitely a challenge because you have to communicate even more when you are just online. Sometimes what you are saying through text is not really understood and something as simple as the wrong punctuation can throw everyone off of what you were trying to say. Also, it was a challenge to use something you never have for something you usually use another device for. I have never really used my phone or apps in this way to make a total production so it was a challenge, but I learned a lot.
